Nostradamus, the author of the famous Centuries, was an unusual man for his time. He was a practicing physician, astronomer and astrologer who lived in the mid 16th century (1503 – 1566) who turned his hand to prophecy later in life. As a physician he treated those suffering from the Bubonic plague and then in a twisted irony lost the members of his family to the disease. He was a devout student of pagan methods of divination at night who wore the mask of a devout Catholic during the day to avoid persecution from the Spanish Inquisition. In the end he predicted his own death, and some say also cursed the marauders from the French Revolution that he foresaw would desecrate his own burial tomb.
Nostradamus wrote messages from the past to the future in the form of short poems consisting of four lines each called Quatrains. In his lifetime Nostradamus completed a total of 942 quatrains, which he organized into groups of 100 quatrains called Centuries. However one century only has 46 quatrains
Some of his Famous Predictions
1. 9/11 Terrorist Attacks
Prediction :
In the year 1999, in the seventh month,
from the sky will come the great King of Terror,
bringing back to life the great King of the Mongols.
Before and after, Mars to reign by good fortune.
Earth-shaking fire from the center of the earth.
will cause the towers around the New City to shake,
Two great rocks for a long time will make war,
And then Arethusa (a ship) will color a new river red.
Analysis :
This is the quatrain that is largely agreed upon as being a terrifying prediction of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The years are a bit off but that is not unusual for Nostradamus whose long term astrological predictions are always a bit off (no computers back then.) Also nobody is sure if Nostradamus was using the Gregorian or Julian calendar to calculate his dates.
Although the date of the event appears to be two years too early, it is important to remember that Nostradamus often wrote in anagrams. The real clue is that the date 1999 is nothing more than a numeric anagram. If we reverse the order of the “1”s and “9”s, we arrive at the date 9-11-1 (the date of the 9-11 attacks).
Although this is a weaker quatrain, there is a mention of the New City, which may be New City and “the towers” which may allude to the twin towers. Arethusa is thought to be an anagram for an event that we have yet to see that is related to terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq.
2. Hurricane Katrina
Prediction :
The cities of Tours, Orleans, Blois, Angers, Reims and Nantes
are troubled by sudden change.
Tents will be pitched by (people) of foreign tongues;
rivers, darts at Rennes, shaking of land and sea.
Analysis :
Although traditionally this quatrain was originally thought to refer to France, the Orleans here might be New Orleans in this Quatrain. The “rivers and the shaking of land and sea†could be referred to as the hurricane.
Another the key is “tents will be pitched by people of foreign tongues.†These could be d be aid workers from other countries
3. The Iraq War
Prediction :
On the field of Iran, of Arabia and of Eastern Turkey
Two great armies will assemble three times
Near the river Araks
The host of the great Suleiman will be cut off
“By firepower of armies, not far from the Black Sea,
He will come from Iran to occupy Trebizond
From the Black Sea and the great Tartary;
a would be king will come to see Gaul
He will transpire Alania and Armenia
and in Istanbul will leave his bloody standard.
Analysis :
Nostradamus clearly points to three conflicts occurring in the areas of Arabia/Kuwait, of Eastern Turkey and of Iran. The first one already came to pass 12 years ago in what came be to known as Desert Storm. The second one refers to the current war in Iraq. And the third one is for the near future when, this time, Iran will be involved also.
Trebizond is a strategic city in Eastern Turkey on the shores of the Black Sea. Gaul was an ancient name for Turkey and Alania is modern day Chechnya that suggests Russian involvement in the Iraq-Iran conflicts in the near future.
4. Lady Diana’s Death
Prediction :
The last son of the man with the Prophet’s name
Will bring Diana to her day of rest.
At a distance they wander in frenetic grief
Delivering a great people from ruin.’
Analysis :
The father of Dodi al-Fayed, the owner of Harrod’s department store, is named
Mohammed, the name of the Islamic Prophet (the man with the prophet’s name. ) He is with her until her day of death (day of rest.)

true predictions of nostradamus Well I read Nostradamus predictions in1998 but was only impressed with one prediction made about four hundred years before about Hitler whom he named as Hister and world war turned out to be totally true. However, he also mentions about a blue turbaned man from Asia atleast four times who would conquer the whole world in which Rome will tumble ie unfortunately means Christanity will perish and also Islam and peace will prevail after twenty years war. Many Western authors have interpreted as some muslim fanatic but Nostradamus has praised him no ends in four quatrains. He also mentioned that Christ will appear from Asia and not Europe as generally believed. I couldnt make out much until Iread a book named Sau Sakhi ie one hundred episodes by Guru Gobind Singh the tenth Guru of the Sikhs from India. This book mainly imparts the religious teaching to sikhs but contains a few predictions of world war waged by a sikh with his army in blue turban who will bring the whole world under him with one religon and God.

To Carl Boynton stfu. nobody cares about your life and you are bitchin about others bein on the internet when you yourself are here too. do you think youre the only person browsing the internet who has gotten laid before? well youre not. i have been to parties, had plenty of sex, been sky diving, traveled all over the world, fallen in love, etc. so why dont YOU get a life and save your breath on the awesome dreams you have of smoking weed and drinking vodka and sleeping with women that you had to get drunk before they would touch you. btw if you actually took the time to read the comments on here you would see that nobody is saying "omg the world is going to end, ill just sit here and wait to die" so whats the point of your retarded rant towards others? are you actually stupid enough to believe those who believe the world is going to end in 2012 are going to say: "oh man i cant go to that party the world is going to end in 2 years" ?? youre a moron. dont give out advice to people who are better than you.

get a life i take it that this site is going to close down in 2012???? to be honest if the world ends in 2012 i know that ive had some bloody good times. how many of you on here can tell me that they have lived they life to the maximum??? if the worlds going to end why dont you lot get of your fat arses and go and party and may be some of you may get laid (for the people who dont know what getting laid means having sexual intercourse.) or do u people beleve that its dirty and sex is forbidden.
if the world ends it ends, what about the babies born in 2012 they havent had a life so why sit on the computers panicing go out, do a bungie jump, go have a bottle of vodka, smoke a joint because if u beleve this times ticking and the day the world is going to end u will be sat up thinking WHAT IF.
may be it may be true but why panic because you havent got any thing better to do??? lifes to short and you may be knocked down by a bus tommrow but did nostradamus predict that a lot of people are going to die tommrow in a accident

To Bethany - I think you should know when preaching your belief on armageddon that it was the Mayan's who created the calendar that we all use to this day, not the Aztecs. I just think that before you speak on subjects you should educate yourself.

Unlikely... @ a
"'he also predicted that in the new century the waters of the earth would turn black, consuming all marine life' BP oil spill, by any chance?"
No, not the BP oil spill, because I made up the prophecy. The point is that he could have done the same thing and it would seem that he is correct because something similar is bound to happen no matter how general the prophecy sounds. People believe too much of what is written when there is no guaranteed credibility of their source. Who knows what Nostradamus's intenttions were? Perhaps he was just bored? Or wanted to mess with people?
Credible sources are usually required to not get many things wrong. Top 10 debunked 'true' Nostradamus predictions: http://listverse.com/2007/09/14/top-10-prophecies-of-nostradamus-debunked/
This makes Nostradamus a non-credible source. Yet many believe much of what he says without putting any effort into doing more research or thinking logically. Him living in the 1500s doesnt make him any more credible than people today

a @last commenter, "he also predicted that in the new century the waters of the earth would turn black, consuming all marine life"
BP oil spill, by any chance?
I don't believe in the prophecies either but that's what a supporter of them would say. You can twist any event to fit them if you really try.
By Sam Michaels Wed, 14 Jul 2010 07:44:16 PDT
Unlikely... Is it possible that he was a narcissist who wanted people to simply praise his name throughout history at the few predictions he has coming true? I do not believe in his predictions, most are false. He also has predicted that in the new century the waters of the earth will become plagued in blackness thus consuming all marine life.

To Destinee Wilson. From Bethany Hall. Ha, I see, Destinee. Well, the world may end in 2012. But Im hoping not. As I would love to live my life a little bit more! So much more to come in my world. 2012 Is not the only date Nostradamus predicted. One of them was 1,000,000! And another 2014. All the films you have seen made like 2012. Are just to make money, so dont worry. Im sure the world will last more than 2012. Im just sure about it. Else that would make the Aztecs just magic. Right? I know I said Nostradamus was magic predicting. But I really dont think the world will end just because the Aztecs only made their Calendar until 2012. I hope I sort of answered your question.
Yours Sincerely,
Bethany.

hah It has actually been proven that the "prophecies" regarded 911 are false. It originated from a college student, writing about how vague the predictions of nostradamus were. So the college student predicted 911, after it occured. It is funny how things get twisted

Hello im actually suprised you didnt meantion prince charles death which is to happen before he is to be married its mostly just my opionon yours could be different
The divine wrath overtakes the great Prince,
a short while before he will marry.
Both supporters and credit will suddenly diminish.
Counsel, he will die because of the shaven heads.

wtf? no, Nostradamus didn't predict the end of the world, ever..... he alludes that the world is alive and peaceful in the 3000's, whether there be people or not, that's a different story.
By D K Tue, 15 Jun 2010 11:24:32 PDT

Good article! The translations are a bit loose but there could be something to it. I believe we all have inherent abilities that can't be explained by empirical means.
